Forest School

This year our Forest School provision will be provided by a company called ‘Primary Forest School’ who will be in school on a Wednesday. We are fortunate to be located in an 'Area of Outstanding Beauty' in the Blackdown Hills and we have a dedicated Forest School Area on site which is in development.

Our site includes:

  • Fire Circle

  • Mud Kitchen/ Digging pit.

  • Natural Den Building Zone

  • Mindfulness Area

  • Loose Parts Play

  • Safe Tools area

  • Wildlife areas

There will be a forest school lunch club available each week on a Wednesday for all children. The activities will be low risk to enable all year groups to participate - for example, a gardening club for summer term.

'Primary Forest School' also run a Forest School After School Club on a Wednesday at our site. This is accessible to our school pupils.

When will my child have Forest School?

Forest School runs on Wednesday afternoons from 1pm- 3:15pm Each class will then have an afternoon session of Forest School for a half term at a time. With each class enjoying two half term blocks of forest school – one warmer and one cooler. This will allow children to build and improve on the knowledge and skills they learn each week and as they progress throughout the school year. See the timetable below:

Autumn 1- Beech Class

Autumn 2- Ash Class

Spring 1- Oak Class

Spring 2- Beech Class

Summer 1 - Ash Class

Summer 2- Oak Class

What will they need?

The weather will start to get warmer soon, but whatever the season, having the appropriate kit remains important.

Here is a list of essential items:

  • Wellies or walking boots, with plenty of room for extra socks if necessary.

  • Waterproof coat and over-trousers.

  • Plenty of thin layers, which can be added to or removed depending on need!

  • A spare set of clothes.

  • A pair of indoor shoes. These should be worn into school for the morning, with separate outdoor shoes in a bag. These provide dry footwear to change into, and are also useful if the children need to come inside for any reason during the session (e.g. toilet etc.).

  • Even in warm weather, we do ask that all clothing covers arms and legs, to prevent nettle stings, insect bites and so on.
